Christmas Extravaganza

We had a wonderful Christmas and a whirlwind of family came to Wharton to celebrate with us. This is the first year that we haven't traveled on Christmas Eve or Christmas day because Paul was on call this year and I have to say it was nice to stay put and have everyone come to us. Here's a brief run down of the festivities!

We started celebrating on Christmas Eve Eve by heading to downtown Wharton with the San Antonio Schmitts. A small band was gathered outside of the theatre singing carols. The square and courthouse were all lit in white lights and it was a very picturesque small town moment. We packed hot chocolate in our to go mugs and people passed our words to the carols. All very wonderful (although very chilly). The only problem was that we were one of about 5 families that showed up. This kind of event is really what small towns should be all about, right?...but that's a whole other post. For now I'll just say that we had a wonderful time.

As you scroll through the pictures be sure to notice the variety of Christmas outfits worn by Miss Emmerich.  We were changing multiple times a day to get them all in!

Sadie came with the San Antonio Schmitts.  Sweet Sadie loves Em and wanted to be right near her.  They enjoyed tummy time together.

Christmas Eve took Em and I to Alvin for the Crook Christmas celebration. Brinkley loves her "cousin" and Em got passed around all afternoon (and of course she loved it). Unfortunately Paul was on call, so he couldn't come with us. I was so glad that his family was here so he wasn't alone on Christmas Eve - however he ended up having multiple calls so was gone most of the evening anyway!

Christmas morning (and another outfit) was wonderful. We opened lots of great gifts from each other and a few from Santa of course. We even opened gifts from Grandma Schmitt and Aunt Denise and Family in Wisconsin and Aunt Amy in Alaska. Grandma Schmitt knitted these hats for Em. She is amazing!

Can you tell Emmerich is my daughter?

Aunt Amy sent these cool stacking blocks. Em isn't stacking them yet - but she thinks they are tasty!

I got a baby food cookbook and will be starting that in the next week or so. Pictures and details to come.

The boys got a Beebe gun and spent most of the remainder of Christmas day in our backyard shooting at targets. Not to worry squirrels - their aim isn't exactly spot on.

We had a wonderful Christmas dinner and then got ready for my Dad's family to arrive on the 26th for another eating extravaganza. We had so much left over steak that Paul and I had steak sandwiches every day for almost an entire week!

It was a wonderful Christmas - obviously filled with lots of gifts. But what really made is special was time spent with family. I'm so thankful that we got to spend time with everyone this year. Here's to many more wonderful Christmases to come!
