5 months

 Everything goes in the mouth!

Emmerich has been busy this month! Here's what she's been up to...

She found her toes and now spends quite a bit of time reaching for them. She's not limber enough to put them in her mouth yet, but I'm sure she'll get there eventually!

She is reaching and grabbing like a champ. She can bring her toys (and my hands and hair) towards her and is pretty good at getting things in her mouth. She loves her Sophie toy (this toy could be a whole blog post on its own) Basically its a giraffe that is all the rage for celebrity babies and therefore is a popular baby gift. She really does love it though! She's been playing with Sophie for about a month now, but she has just learned how to squeak her herself. I think this is amazing that she understands that when she hits her she squeaks and I can't believe such a little person could figure this out. She amazes me!

Em got her first two teeth right around Thanksgiving. She's now a chewing champ. She loves to chew on her fingers and is getting better to holding her teething rings with both hands and holding them up to her mouth on her own. She hasn't been too super fussy about it. We don't see any evidence of the upper two teeth yet but we expect them to show up soon.

She's also rolling from back to front. She hasn't taken off rolling across the floor yet and doesn't do it all the time, but every now and then I'll look over and she's flipped herself over.

Tummy time has led to some new moves too. She is "swimming" by moving her arms and legs at the same time and is working on pulling her knees up underneath her.

She is still super smiley in the mornings (and most of the day) and sometimes reaches out when she is about to be picked up.

After Thanksgiving she started sleeping an 8 hour stretch at night. She goes to be at 7 and then wakes up around 3 to nurse then sleeps for a few more hours. This new night schedule is wonderful, but it has changed her daytime napping so now we are trying to get that back on track!

Our next fun event will be starting rice cereal. We will be sure to get lots of pictures of what will surely be a giant mess!

  1. Wow....I didn't know she was figuring out the squeaking. She certainly has grown/changed in this last month!
