The Name Game

Other than Paul’s realization that, “Oh man, I’m going to have to learn how to braid hair!” the one thing that became a bit tricky when we learned that "it" was a "she" was choosing a name. A boy was easy for us, we were sold on Slade, but girls names are a little trickier. We could use Slade for a girl too, but it seems a bit too masculine maybe? We'd like to use a family name that's a bit unique, but not so unique that she will have to say things like, "No not Erin, Hearin with an H" for the rest of her life. Sorry mom and dad, I really do like my name, but that part does get a little old.

Anyhow, the only girl name we've ever really liked and agreed on is Emmerich (Em-rick) Anne. Emmerich is a family name on Paul's mom's side and we’re pretty sold on it at this point, now we are just thinking about the spelling (Clearly above is my vote)…oh the decisions!

Here are some famous Emmerichs:

Emmerich am Rhein - City in Germany

Anne Catherine Emmerich - Catholic Saint
Kind of a creepy picture, but she did live in the late 1700s. She had visions where she talked to Jesus and became a saint.

Noah Emmerich - Actor
Not exactly world famous, in fact I'm not sure I've heard of ANY of the movies he's been in...

Stuart Emmrich - writer, NY times/ NY observer
