Porter Elizabeth

Many of you know that I was in panic mode when we found out the little bean was a girl. Don't get me wrong, I was thrilled for Em to have a sister and delighted at the lack of new stuff I will need to buy, but I did have one problem with a girl. The name.

We loved the name Emmerich and couldn't think of a single alternative when we were expecting her.
That made this go around really difficult.

Clearly we like names that are a little out of the box and you can't name one child Emmerich and the second Jane (Talk about second child syndrome).

Anyhow after me throwing out a zillion ideas and Paul giving a resounding "eh" to each of them and Paul throwing out 1 idea and me giving a large "absolutely not" to that idea, we finally had an epiphany.

We got out my family tree that my grandmother had created years ago and Paul started reading through.
Although Lycurgus and Lovica didn't really tempt us, we did discover that my great grandmother's name was Porter Lucile (she went by Lucile) and her father's name was Porter Wilson.

Right away we agreed that we really liked Porter and we had to think on it a while to make sure that we liked it for a girl. But it just seems to fit.

So now we are eagerly awaiting the arrival of Porter Elizabeth.

Emmerich's version of Porter is more like Peter. I'm working on getting a video. Could not be sweeter hearing her say "baby Porter"
