A one year old

Well we officially hit the big milestone last Thursday. Our baby has morphed into a toddler before our very eyes and is one year old!

Stats:
height: 29.75 in (75%)
weight: 19.4 lbs (25%)

Yes folks, she's back on the chart for weight. This is a huge relief. I'll attribute that to the fact that she switched to formula around 10.5 months and that she has been eating and drinking up a storm!
We will be switching to whole milk in a sippy cup starting this week. I'm ready for the no more bottle washing days but am a little nervous about the switch. She goes down for her naps so easily with a bottle...but she's a trooper and I'm sure that she will adjust just fine.

Talking up a storm
Dada (for Paul and pretty much everything else), uh oh (this is my favorite), duck ('uck' also used for Jack- and Millie is called Jack now too), baby, and still mama (sometimes), puppy and woof woof

Eating
She's eating like a champ. She loves to feed herself and has transitioned to mostly finger foods. But she eats more veggies when they are pureed so I'll probably keep that up for a while too. I'm trying to venture out in the breakfast department so I think I'll try eggs in a muffin tin and freeze them. Thank you pinterest for the idea.

Walking
She can stand on her own and has taken a total of 2 steps at a time by herself but still prefers to crawl. She will cruise around furniture and walk like a champ while holding your hands or holding onto a push toy. We keep anxiously awaiting the day she takes off, but we know it will come in her own time.

Other things
Don't call her rude, but Em points at everything! She points and then says "at". Which we are translating into "What's that?" She's particularly fond of the lights and fans.
She loves cats. Pictures of them and the real thing. Squeals with delight.

She's getting pretty good at putting things back into a box, bag, etc which is great! And she is starting the phase of handing us stuff that she's playing with.
She still crinkles her nose when she laughs or thinks something is funny.
She gets frustrated sometimes and tenses her arms and makes a little fist - usually only lasts a second or two, no major tantrums - yet :)
Tried ice cream - We think she's a fan

She is starting to act shy (or I say pretends to be shy). When she sees someone new she will bury her head into our shoulders and peek at them with one eye. That lasts a total of about one minute, then she's their best friend.

Speaking of friends, my friend Kate and I took Emmerich and her daughter Eloise out for a birthday lunch at Brookwood Community in Brookshire for the girls' birthday (they were both born on the 12th). Despite the crazy rain, it was a really fun trip and the girls (big and small) had a nice time celebrating :)

She took her first trip to Lake Cherokee over the 4th of July. She liked swimming in the lake, but though that going up and down the step into the sunroom was the best thing of all :)

Wow! What a year its been! Party pics coming soon.
