Growing Up

Lots of changes going on around here... Emmerich turned one month on Friday the 12th! My plan is to take her picture next to the pig every month so we have a comparison on how she's growing. So far she's not so sure about the pig...

Also Ladies and Gentlemen...we have a belly button. Em lost her umbilical cord on Tuesday at 5 weeks.

As some of you know when we went for her 3 week appointment Emmerich wasn't gaining weight fast enough so the doctor had us start giving her one bottle of formula a day in addition to breast feeding. We started that and weighed her with the Paul's clinic's cat scale (yes, Paul sterilized it first) and happily she has been gaining an ounce a day since we started (which is right on track). She was 8lbs 8oz when we weighed her on Tuesday and we will have another appointment on September 13th.

This means that she has outgrown her newborn clothes and is now wearing size 0-3 months. This is a good thing since I have a ton of precious outfits for her to wear in this size! I have to admit that its fun getting her dressed up.

Also changing...hair and eyes. Her hair is definitely lighter and longer. She is still loving for daddy to wash her hair and we've noticed that it is getting blond at the roots and she'll be ready for some barrettes soon to sweep those bangs out of her eyes. We've gotten a couple of comments that it looks a little red.  Even though Paul's grandma was a red head, I think it has more to do with lighting than actual hair color...

She is also making more noises (little coos and squeals) and I swear I saw a smile today when I was singing to her, however, she may be the most gassy child ever and it could be just that. And speaking of her gas...Tootie McTooterson as we so affectionately call her has trouble napping for more than 30 minutes or so during the day because she wakes up tooting or with gas pains and has to be rocked/soothed back to sleep. I'm contemplating eliminating some things from my diet to see if that helps...however, I'm also wondering if that's really the cause because she doesn't seem to have as big of a problem during the night. Hmmm. Such a small little girl, so full of mysteries.
